Rating and licence duration
The CPL-H commercial helicopter pilot licence authorises you to perform all activities of a PPL-H licence.
To work as responsible pilot or co-pilot on helicopters not used for commercial transport.
To work as responsible pilot for commercial transport on helicopters and with only one pilot as crew.
To work as co-pilot for commercial transport on helicopters for whose operation a co-pilot is mandatory.
Validity and extension of the CPL-H licence
The validity of the CPL-H licence is based on the aviation medical certificate class 1 (valid according to age and described in detail in the following) and a valid reliability certificate (as per §7 LuftSiG air safety regulations valid for 5 years in each case) and the type ratings listed in the commercial pilot licence.
Extension of the medical certificate
The medical certificate class 1 is an aviation medical report that certifies the physical and psychological fitness of the commercial pilot. It is valid:
For commercial pilots in aircraft with two pilots:
- Up to the age of 59 – 12 months
- From the age of 60 – 6 months
For commercial pilots in aircraft with one pilot:
- Up to the age of 39 – 12 months
- From the age of 40 – 6 months

Extension of the type rating
The type rating can be extended for one year at a time by at least two verified flight hours on the corresponding helicopter and a test flight with an authorised examiner TRE(H).
