Short tour of the Ries crater

The short Ries crater tour starts with a flight over Nördlingen towards the western edge of the crater. The impressive Offnet-Höhlen are located here, and the restored remains of a Roman manor from the first century. From here, the journey continues to the southern edge of the Ries crater, over the parish of Mönchsdeggingen with the oldest monastery in the Ries.

On the northern edge of the Ries crater is the next highlight of the tour: Harburg Castle. First mentioned in books in 1093, Harburg Castle is completely preserved and a popular tourist destination on the Romantic Road. From here, it is back to the airfield at Wallerstein.

Long tour of the Ries

The long tour of the Ries crater also starts with a flight over Nördlingen. Then you fly to Donauwörth whose romantic townscape is characterised by the Danube which meanders through the town. Past the imposing headquarters of the largest helicopter manufacturer in Europe, Harburg Castle is the next highlight on the sightseeing tour.

The completely preserved Harburg Castle first appeared in books in 1093 and is a well-known landmark on the Romantic Road. The tour is rounded off with the fuchsia town of Wemding. The small medieval town offers a beautiful townscape thanks to its well preserved old town.
