History and milestones of the Cabri G2

The lightweight, two-seater and very high performance Cabri G2 was developed by Bruno Guimbal. When he worked as a helicopter engineer for the French helicopter manufacturer Eurocopter, he was already dreaming of constructing a small helicopter with completely unique flight characteristics and surprising performance.

Eleven years ago, Bruno Guimbal stopped working for Eurocopter so he could completely devote himself to following his dream. By 31 March 2005 the model of the current Cabri (S/N 1001 F-WYHG) flew to Aix-en-Provence for the first time and on 18 August 2005 had already established three official world records in its class:

  • Height attained without a payload 6,658 m (21,838 ft)
  • Duration of a climb to 3,000 m ((9840 ft) - 6 min 42 sec
  • Duration of a climb to 6,000 m (19,680 ft) - 22 min 6 sec

Hélicoptères Guimbal received the first orders for the Cabri G2 in June 2006. After six years intensive development work and nearly 300 test flight hours, on 15 December 2007, the Cabri received its license from EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) in accordance with CS-27.

On 18 September 2008 Guimbal supplied the first Cabri G2 with the serial number S/N 1003 to a customer. In March 2010, Heli Aviation GmbH took delivery of its first Cabri, the second of these helicopters to be supplied to Germany. A further Cabri G2 followed in October 2010 and in summer 2011 by two others. Seen globally, our company with five Guimbal Cabri G2 helicopters has the largest Cabri fleet used actively in any company. Throughout the world, Heli Aviation GmbH is the only company with more than 2400 hours flight experience on the Guimbal Cabri G2!

Bruno Guimbal explains that the name is an acronym formed from Comfort in Autorotation Belongs to Rotor Inertia. Cabri is also the French word for a little goat. A suitable name for a small high-powered and energetic helicopter that conveys an indescribable feeling of freedom as it climbs.
